At Chattahoochee Valley Dental, we now offer Botox Neurotoxin injections not just for wrinkles, but also for facial pain, including TMJ pain and headaches!

Botox for TMJ can be highly effective. One 2012 study found that Botox treatments significantly decreased pain and increased mouth movements for three months following the treatment. Another study found that symptoms improved in 90 percent of participants. This is great news if you are one of these people who deals with daily facial pain, and may not be able to wear a night guard.

What Can BOTOX Neurotoxin Injections Do for Me?

BOTOX Cosmetic treatments can be used in certain facial muscles to not only reduce fine lines that appear on the face due to aging, but also help lessen the intensity of grinding, and help with headaches and facial pain due to grinding or clenching.  A few simple injections using a thin needle relaxes the muscles for 3 months. Common target areas include:

  1. The Masseter or “cheek” muscles responsible for chewing food and clenching/grinding

  2. The Temporalis muscles that are on the sides of the face right outside the eyes. These muscles are targeted to reduce headaches.

  3. For esthetics, the lines on the outer corner of the eye or “Crow’s feet” can be treated for wrinkles; as well as; the wrinkles on the forehead, frown lines between the brows, and the lines around the lips.
