Dr. Mike

Michael J. Cox, DMD

Dr. Michael J. Cox was born in Bainbridge, GA, and grew up near the small community of Climax, GA.  During childhood and high school, Dr. Mike was an active member of Boy Scout troop 383 of Whigham, GA, where he obtained the highest rank, Eagle Scout, at the age of 16. After obtaining the Eagle rank, Dr. Mike remained involved in his home troop where he served as a mentor to the younger scouts. During these years, Dr. Mike played tennis for Bainbridge High School and was an active member of the FFA and 4-H club shotgun team. He was also an honor graduate of Bainbridge High School. During his elementary and high school years, Dr. Mike was a member of Whigham United Methodist Church.

After high school Dr. Mike attended Valdosta State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and graduated Magna Cum Laude. At VSU Dr. Mike was a founding member of the first pre-dental club.  Dr. Mike then attended dental school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA where he became involved in the American Student Dental Association and the Georgia Dental Association student chapter. While attending dental school, Dr. Mike had the privilege to work with a resident in the esthetic department. At this time he was able to build a foundation for esthetic dentistry and full mouth rehabilitation, which he has a passion. Dr. Mike met his better half Christina (Dr. Tina) during the first semester of dental school and ended up tying the knot a month after they both graduated in May 2014.

Dr. Mike is an active member of the Western District Dental Society, The Georgia Dental Association, Georgia Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Dental Association, organizations that are involved in advancing the dental field. After associating in a successful group practice in Albany, GA, Dr. Mike and Dr. Tina were presented with the opportunity to purchase the practice of Dr. John Avant in Columbus and eagerly accepted. A year or so later, they expanded their reach to the West Point area. He practices at each location, and enjoys it thoroughly.

He and Dr. Tina have two sweet little girls, Evie (3) and Lydia (18-months) and three dogs Kozmo, Laney and George.  They are members of the First Baptist Church in Columbus and live near the community of Cataula in Harris County, GA.  He loves spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He and Dr. Tina are excited to call the Chattahoochee Valley their home.
